This week our 2nd - 5th grade elementary students took a trip to County Line Orchard for a fun-filled day at the apple orchard and pumpkin patch! 🍎🌽 The smiles say it all – our students, families, and staff came together to enjoy the crisp fall air, find the perfect pumpkins, and create lasting memories. 🍂 Thank you to everyone who helped make this unforgettable day possible. Make sure you take a look 👀 and get your school pictures ordered, or start planning for retake day on Thursday, November 7th. 🎃🍎 Steel City Fall Tradition Continues! 🍎🎃 Our Baby Flames in Kindergarten and First grade had an incredible time on their annual trip to the County Line Orchard! Just look at these smiles as they picked pumpkins, watched the bees in action, and learned all about apples. 🍏🐝 A huge thank you to our amazing K-1 parents and guardians who came out as chaperones, alongside our dedicated teachers and paras. 📢 Important Announcement for Steel City Academy Families! 🍂 Fall Break is almost here! Our students will be on break starting October 18, 2024, and we’ll welcome them back on Monday, October 28, 2024 for an Asynchronous Learning Day and back in the building on Tuesday, October 29th! 💻 Asynchronous Learning Day will take place on October 28th. Students will complete work provided by their teachers from home. All assignments are due on October 29th, and they will count toward Quarter 2 grades. The last week before fall break is full of celebrations throughout Steel City and the lunchroom is no exception! 🎉 This week we're celebrating National School Lunch Week, starting with the Indiana Great Apple Crunch! 🍎 The Great Apple Crunch celebrates the importance of local agriculture 🚜 and highlights the numerous varieties of apples grown right here in Indiana! Today at lunch students got to taste test three varieties of apples: red delicious ❤️, blondee 💛, and granny smith 💚! A special shoutout to Garwood Orchards for supplying the delicious apples. This week kicked off our Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program 🍊🥬🍌helping expose💡our K-6 students to new fruits and vegetables and promote healthy eating 😋 habits! Students enjoy a fruit or vegetable twice a week in the classroom while learning 🧠 nutritional information and fun facts about the fruit or vegetable. Our college and career readiness team has been hard at work, 💪🏼 planning college tours 👨🏾‍🎓📍and helping our students explore the #BoundlessOpportunities after high school! This past week students had the chance to explore both University of Illinois at Chicago ❤️ and University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign 🧡💙, alma mater of our very own Mr. Moore and Mr. Stevens! They enjoyed campus tours, getting to see a typical dorm room, and the dining hall experience!
